The University of Kufa and its partners, the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna and KoƧ University under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, is proud to host the Third Conference for Research and Protection on the Archaeological Heritage of Iraq (ICRPAHI). This Conference is a gathering of archaeologists, researchers and practitioners in archaeology, conservation and related fields. ICRPAHI is held annually since 2018.

About the conference

The Third International Conference for Research and Protection on the Archaeological Heritage of Iraq (ICRPAHI) will be held at the University of Kufa campus in Najaf, Iraq, 26th to 27th February 2022. The conference is organized by an International Steering Committee. It is the premier international meeting for researchers and other professionals in archaeology networks and related areas. It features invited plenary talks by excellent speakers in the areas of Mesopotamian archaeology and site conservation. In addition to regular technical sessions with oral and poster presentations, the conference program will include special sessions, competitions, tutorials and workshops on topics of current interest.

Call for Papers:

Archaeological research in Iraq is currently undergoing dynamic growth, with new excavations and surveys already changing our reconstruction of the origins of Mesopotamian urban life. This international conference will focus on the archaeology and social history of Mesopotamia in antiquity. We invite papers that focus on the early cities and states of Mesopotamia, through aspects such as art, architecture, material culture and texts. We also invite papers using scientific techniques to explore the Mesopotamian past (e.g., isotope studies, UAV mapping, or geoarchaeology). The conference will also include a strong focus on cultural heritage and its protection, through conservation and public archaeology presentation strategies; papers that examine museums, exhibits, and their interaction with diverse audiences will be very welcome.
